Purpose : 1. To tag and r e l e a s e  P a c i f i c  b o n i t o  Sarda c h i l i e n s i s .  
2. To c o l l e c t  l a r v a l  and young f i s h  under a n i g h t - l i g h t .  
3. To t a g  and r e l e a s e  P a c i f i c  mackerel,  Scomber japonicus  
and j eck mackerel,  Trachurus s ymme t r i c u s  when avai lzible  . 
4. To make i n c i d e n t a l  c o l l e ~ t i o n s  as reques ted .

San Gabr ie l  River  and i n  King Harbor f o r  b o n i t o  on January  
24 and 25,  and i n  t he  v i c i n i t y  of Santa  C a t a l i n a  I s l a n d  on 
January 27 and 28. A n i g h t - l i g h t  was d isp layed  i n  Ck ta l ina  
harbor  du r ing  the  evening of January 27, 
B i o l o g i s t s  tagged and r e l e a s e d  89 P a c i f i c  b o n i t o  a t  King 
IIarbor, Redondo Beach on January 2) and 26. I n  e d d i t i o n  
16 jack mackerel ob ta ined  from the  l i v e  b a i t  supp7 ~ l e r  ' were 
tagged and re l eased  a t  King Harbor on January 26. F i s h i n g  
off t he  San Gabr ie l  River  and i n  t h e  v ic in i tbr  of Santa  
Ca ta l ina  I s l a n d  produced no boni to  o r  rdackerel f 'or tagging.  
P a r a s i t e s  of rock f i s h  taken i n c i d e n t a l l y  were c o l l e c t e d  
and turned over t o  a Masters Degree s tuden t  a t  CSCLB.
