BIG GAME FISHERIES INVESTIGATIONS

"KELP BASS" 
Dates: August 15-24, 1972 
Locality: Inshore waters of northern Baja California, San Martin 
Island and Los Coronados Islands. 
Purpose: 1. To collect white seabass, Cynoscion nobi l i s  for 
fecundity, length weight and sub-population studies 
and California barracuda, Sphyraenu mgentea for 
size composition. 
Procedure: 
2. To tag and release any white seabass, Pacific bonito, 
Sarda chi l iensis ,  Pacific mackerel, Scornber japonicus, . 
jack mackerel, Trachurus symmetricus and' Pacific 
albacore, Thunnus aZaZunga taken. 
3. To make incidental collections as requested by 
other projects. 
Gill nets will be used to obtain samples for fecundity 
and sub-population studies. Trolling with jigs and fishing 
with live bait will be conducted to obtain fish for tagging 
and size composition. Fishing will also be conducted 
under nightlights. 
Equipment: Gill nets, rods, reels, jig poles, bait tank, nightlight.
