Dates: May 29-31, June 1, and June 4-8, 1973 
Local i ty :  The nearshore  waters  of southern  Cg l i fo rn i a .  
Purpose: 1. To t a g  P a c i f i c  mackerel, Scomber japonicus ,  t o  
o b t a i n  popula t ion  e s t i m a t e s  and j ack  mackerel, 
Trachurus symmetricus, f o r  migra t ion  and behavior  
s t u d i e s .  
2. To make i n c i d e n t a l  f i s h  c o l l e c t i o n s .  
Resu l t s  : A t o t a l  of 468 j ack  mackerel, 169 P a c i f i c  mackerel, 10 
bon i to ,  10 barracuda,  and 1 whi t e  seabass  w a s  tagged 
and r e l eased  a t  La J o l l a  and San Diego.
