Colombia y Brasil son miembros de los bloques de cooperación regional e internacional más importantes que existen en Latinoamérica, MERCOSUR y Alianza del Pacifico, bloques que han servido como instrumento canalizador de ideologías políticas de derecha y de izquierda, reflejando las marcadas diferencias y matices que existen en el amplio escenario político latinoamericano. La Globalización fue el contexto en el cual se fortaleció la creación de alianzas regionales y por medio del cual se estableció el marco institucional que rigió el nuevo orden mundial establecido después de la guerra fría.
