Content of mercury in muscle of some commercial fish species present in eight sampling sites from the Magdalena river basin (low, medium and high)

Abstract

Las diversas actividades antrópicas realizadas en las riberas de los sistemas acuáticos han ocasionados graves impactos sobre los organismos que allí habitan, uno de los principales contaminantes que afectan las pesquerías es el mercurio, el cual tiene un efecto acumulativo y letal. Mediante el uso de un analizador de mercurio directo (DMA 80) por la técnica de descomposición térmica de amalgamación 7473, se estudiaron muestras de tejido muscular de 129 individuos pertenecientes a 23 especies, capturados en ochos puntos distribuidos a lo largo del río Magdalena. La concentración media de mercurio encontrada fue de 0,338 ± 0,517 ppm, con un valor mínimo de 0,034 ppm correspondiente a Triportheus magdalenae y un máximo de 4,580 pmm perteneciente Roeboides dayi. De los individuos analizados, sólo cinco presentaron valores superiores a 1,0 ppm, los cuales, fueron capturados en inmediaciones de Puerto Berrio – Antioquia y Magangue – Bolívar, siendo las especies con las concentraciones promedio más altas A. pardalis y Roeboides dayi con 1,759 y 1,416 ppm respectivamente, en tanto, las otras especies exhibieron concentraciones promedio inferiores a 0,436 ppm de Hg.The various anthropogenic activities on the banks of the water systems have caused serious impacts on organisms that live there, one of the main pollutants affecting the fisheries is the mercury, which has a cumulative and lethal effect.
