Com o presente trabalho pretende-se constituir contributo para o melhor conhecimento das necrópoles da I Idade do Ferro (séculos VIII-V a.C.) da região do Baixo Alentejo, incluindo a sub- região Alentejo Litoral. Elabora-se corpus documental atualizado dessas necrópoles, seguindo critério criados para a sua caracterização.
O foco principal do presente estudo reside na arquitetura funerária, analisando-se as suas fases e a sua evolução crono-morfológica, além de se ter procedido à análise das ligações existentes entre necrópoles e as paisagens que as circundam. Apresentam-se dois grandes núcleos de necrópoles, uma em Ourique e outra em Beja, seguindo-se análise das semelhanças e dissemelhanças. As necrópoles da primeira região têm como características a arquitetura positiva, enquanto as pertencentes à segunda região obedecem a arquitetura negativa. Os rituais diferem nas regiões, sendo para Beja a inumação quase exclusiva, no caso de Ourique o ritual é misto (inumação-incineração).
Também abordamos visão teórica da Arqueologia da Morte, adaptando-a à realidade daquelas regiões.This paper discusses the sideric necropolises of the Iron Age (VIII-V A.D.) of the Baixo (Lower) Alentejo region, including the sub-region of Alentejo Litoral (Coast). An update inventory on these necropolises is also presented, following the relevant criteria for its specification. The main focus of this study is the necropolises architecture, including their phases and chrono-morphologic evolution, together with the analysis of the existing connections between the necropolises and the surrounding environment. Two large nucleuses of necropolises are also presented, one in Beja and the other one in Ourique, followed by the analysis of their similarities and dissimilarities. The necropolises from Ourique are characterized by its positive architecture while the one’s from Beja follows a negative architecture. The rituals differ in both regions; while in Beja the inhumation is almost exclusive, in the case of Ourique, the ritual is mixed (inhumation-incineration). A theoretical view on the Archeology of Death is also presented
