The article describes the restructuring of the Argentina car parts industry and analyses the
consequences for the sexual division of labour. The anicle shows thm the changes in the
organisation of the labour process Caused by the introduction of a toyotist production system
can, but will not necessarily, lead to a new division of labour between the sexes. The processes
of in- and exclusion that affect women workers will strongly depend on the tacit understanding
of gender differences from all actors, including women themselves, and their actions taken
thereon. A less dererministic, more agency-oriented picture arises from the research without
losing sight of the fact that agency can reinforce and, usually is, already existing structures
