CGIAR Task Force on Sub-Saharan Africa: Final Report

Abstract

Final report of the CGIAR Task Force on Africa established following in May 1986 by CGIAR Chairman S. Shahid Husain to examine ways of improving collaboration between IARCs, donors, and national programs in sub-Saharan Africa. Presented by Andrew Bennett on behalf of Task Force Chair Guy Camus at CGIAR International Centers Week October - November 1989.The task force recommended that national systems should take the initiative in managing the interface between national and international research, and noted that CGIAR policy supported interfacing mechanisms in cases of common interests. Further collaboration with SPAAR was recommended. The Task Force urged the Center Directors Standing Committee on Africa to maintain its dialogue with African NARS, and supported the coordination of non-specialized training at a regional or sub-regional level
