A History of School and school culture: two decades of fruitful exchange. The emerging importance of the study of the school patrimony

Abstract

En el marco de las renovadas tendencias de la historiografía pedagógica desarrolladas durante las últimas décadas, ha cobrado especial interés el estudio de la escuela como un espacio social que se construye con una cultura propia, capaz de reinterpretar el influjo de factores exógenos y explicar así buena parte de la estructura de su organización interna. Este enfoque, conocido como cultura escolar o culturas de la escuela, ha propiciado un nuevo impulso, una tercera dimensión en el ámbito docente e investigador de la Historia de la Escuela, haciendo emerger aspectos que habían permanecido en penumbra. El objetivo de este trabajo no es otro que realizar una primera aproximación valorativa a la urdimbre de relaciones que se han ido construyendo entre la Historia de la Escuela y este novedoso enfoque, destacando alguno de sus frutos de mayor actualidad, como es el interés por la memoria y la recuperación del patrimonio escolar.Keeping in mind the latest tendencies in pedagogical historiography that we have witnessed in the last decades, it is very important to study the school as a social space that is built upon its own culture. The school should be able to reinterpret the influence of external factors that serve as the basics of its internal organization. This approach, known as “cultura escolar” (the culture of a school or cultures of schools) has inspired the birth of a third dimension in the realm of the History of Pedagogy. Several aspects that were previously ignored are now coming to light. The objective of this paper is to study the conceptual relations that have been established among the field of History of Pedagogy and this new approach. We will also focus on recent developments associated to this topic, such as the interest in memory and the recuperation of the School Patrimony
