This study investigated the effectof nitroglycerin (NTG) - induced migraine attack on the acquisition of morphine andcannabinoid - induced conditioned place preference (CPP) in male rats.Material and Method: Adult male rats (230-250 gr) were used. Experimental groups wereincluded (n:10): control, opioid receptor agonist morphine (l0mg/kg), WIN55,212-2(lmglkg) as a cannabinoid receptor agonist, NTG + morphine (10mg/kg) and NTG +MN55,212 -2 (lmgkg). Nitroglycerin (10 mglkg) was used to induce migraine attack everyother day for 9 days. After migraine induction, conditioning performance was assessed byCPP test. During conditioning days, morphine and WIN55,2|2-2 was injectedsubcutaneously and intraperitoneally, respectively. Anxiety and locomotors activity wasevaluated using open field test (OFT).Results: According to dat4 conditioning score for morphine treated rats was significantlydecreased following NTG-induced migraine (p<0.01). However, NTG-induced migraine wasable to increase the conditioning score in WIN55,2I2-2 as compared to control group(p<0.05). In OFT, there were no significant differences in locomotors activity and groomingbehaviors between experimental groups. However, time spent in center was significantlydecreased in NTG plus morphine-treated rats as compared to control (p<0.05). Moreover,rearing response in NTG - treated groups which received either morphine or WIN55,2|2-2decreased as compared to control group (p<0.01).Conclusion: NTG induced migraine prompts a decrease in morphine and an increase incannabinoid performances. So, these compounds effects on drug dependency during migraineattack may be occurred at different mechanism(s).OrKeywords: Nitroglycerin, Migraine, Morphine, Cannabinoid receptors, Conditioned placepreferenceol
