The study lastedfrom 6 weeks, with evaluation moments at week 0 and in the end of week 6.Through the SPSS, the t-student test was used to analyze intra and inter-group data,with a significance level of 5%.Analyzing the descriptive characteristics of the sample (Table 1), it was possible toverify that the groups were homogeneous regarding the age (19.66 ± 2.85 vs 19.61±2.96) and weight (80.78 ± 7.35 vs 80.58 ± 5.43) the participants.In the mean values, the athletes in the experimental group had lower values than thecontrol group, functional disability (2.1 ± 1.5 vs 3.25 ± 1.75) and pain score (3 ± 1.5, vs4.25 ± 0.7), and higher values from endurance of the trunk (flexors - 73.9 ± 24.5,extensors - 75.3 ± 24.7, right lateral flexors - 41.1 ± 26.5, left lateral flexors - 43.35 ±26.8; ± 24.1, vs flexors 56.1 ± 24.1, extensors- 63.2 ± 15.6, right lateral flexors- 32.8 ±16.1, left lateral flexors- 35.5 ± 19.2) (tables 2 and 3). In EG, we can see statisticallysignificant differences in the functional disability variable (p = 0.02), pain intensity (p =0.03) and endurance in the trunk flexors (p = 0.04) and extensors (p = 0.01) (table 2); InCG, there are no statistically significant differences except from pain intensity (p =0.04) (table 3).The functional disability and pain intensity value decreased from M0 to M1 in the EGwith a moderate to high effect. The value of endurance of trunk flexors and extensorsincrease from M0 to M1 with a moderate to high effect (table 4).Clinical Pilates has benefits on handball athletes with low back pain, leading to a decrease of the pain intensity and functional incapacity, as well as an increase of theendurance of the trunk flexors and extensors. This study shows the relevance of the introduction of Clinical Pilates in the recovery of handball athletes with low back pain.However, further investigation should be done with an increased sample.Low back pain is defined as a slight or acute pain, or as a discomfromt that arisesin the region of the lumbar spine, and may or may not radiate to the thigh3.Lumbar pain in athletes is related to multiple external factors such as sport,intensity, frequency of training and technique and planning, and internal factorssuch as gender and age4.Pilates Clinic uses minimal loads to improve the activation and endurance of slowmotor units and the integration of movement from a stable center and increasedkinesthesia, aiming to improve the posture and control of the movement and todevelop lombo-pelvic stability through the strengthening of the core. Theeffectiveness of therapeutic exercises in the treatment of chronic low back5 paincontinues to be investigated; however, there is already strong evidence that thepain intensity and disability are reduced, although there are no recommendationson what types of specific exercises from individuals with low back pain(6,7)CONCLUSIONSBACKGROUND
