Ageism is age discrimination based on stereotypes and prejudices towards
age groups. The discrimination is especially important and intensely when
speaking about the elderly. The aim of the paper is to indicate reasons — at the
societal level and at the individual one - to stereotype and to stigmatize the elderly,
to make a classification of its manifestation, and finally to determine how
to minimize the extent of the phenomenon
