Cornplete conversion of PinOx was achieved within I min at 55 oC or30 mirr at 35 'C using 1,2-dichloroethane as solvent, giving CPA in 68% yield.lOther products included Írans-carveol, iso-pinocamphone and trans-pinocarveol. The stability of I under the reaction conditions was investigatedby FT-IR spectroscopy and ESI-MS to characterise recovered solids. In thepresence of airlmoisture I undergoes oxidative decarbonylation upondissolution to give oxomolybdenum species that are proposecl to include atetranuclear oxomolybdenurn(V) complex. Conversely, ESI-MS studies of Idissolved in dry CH:CN show mononuclear species of the typellndMo(CO)z(CH3CN)"1'.
