Método y muestra: se utilizó la escala de deseo sex-ual del cuestionario Deseo Sexual y Aversión (DESEA).La muestra se obtuvo mediante un muestreo noprobabilístico, método de muestreo casual o incidental.Los participantes contestaron al cuestionario a travésde un enlace habilitado en la página web de laAcademia Internacional de Sexología Médica y delInstituto Andaluz de Sexología y Psicología. La mues-tra estaba formada por 1894 hombres de 39 países, conuna media de edad de 36.87 años y una desviacióntípica de 11.34. Se analizó el deseo en función de laedad, orientación sexual y tipo de pareja.Resultados: mediante la prueba de Kruskal-Wallis,se detectó que había diferencias significativas, siendolos hombres entre 29 y 38 años los que obtienen unamayor puntuación media (11.99) y los hombres 69-78(9.67) los de menor puntuación. This may be relatedwith the apparent overlap with other constructs suchas sexual desire and sexual satisfaction. However, whenwe integrate the existent scientific knowledge ongeneral boredom into a preliminary theory of sexualboredom the last seems to diverge from the othersexuality concepts. Nevertheless, the empirical data onsexual boredom seems anecdotal and both qualitativeand quantitative studies are much needed. It is theaim of this project to shed some light over sexualboredom processes and implications for adults, namelyin what concerns meanings of sexual boredom in laypeople’s voices, the cognitive-emotional and physio-logical processes that may play a role and clarify therelation with other individual, relationship and sexual-ity factors.Methods & sample: This research project will com-prise three studies. A qualitative study with in-personfocus groups will be conducted with 6-8 participantsfrom the community paired by sex and age group;responses will be subject to thematic analysis. In alaboratory study will be collected quantitative psycho-physiological data using erotic clips and affect induc-tion with of 40 men and women divided inexperimental and control groups. The last study willcollect information from self-report measures with anonline sample of 500 men and women.Results: This is an ongoing project in the context ofthe Doctoral Program of Human Sexuality in Porto,Portugal. Preliminary findings of the qualitative studywill be presented.Conclusion & recommendations: Sexual boredommay be a construct in its own name and a phenom-enon contributing to the over diagnosis of sexual dys-function.
