She is a big fan of Thor and Broadway musicals. In her gap years, she worked at the NY Center for Child Development in Harlem and did research at Weill Cornell. When she’s not in the OR she enjoys painting, woodworking, and bartending.Andrea McSweeney (SKMC 2022) is from Needham, MA and is applying to vascular surgery. She spent her gap year before medical school working as a research technician and medical scribe. She enjoys running, skiing, and cooking during her free time.Khaled Noueihed (SKMC 2022) is from Venezuela and worked as a medical assistant in Boston before starting medical school. He is applying to general surgery. In his free time, he enjoys running and playing tennis and soccer.Tyler Fox (SKMC 2022) is from Ridley Park, PA and is applying to general surgery. He worked as a laboratory technician for one year before medical school. In his downtime, he enjoys playing guitar, bouldering, and weightlifting. A M R I T A  I Y E RAmrita Iyer (SKMC 2025) is from Milpitas, CA and during her gap year worked as Program Coordinator for the Dept. of Population Health in Oakland, CA, including setting up mobile COVID testing sides and organizing vaccine education abd outreach e!orts. She is interested in trauma and cardiothoracic surgery. She loves singing, playing piano, painting, gardening, hiking, and has a black belt in karate!J E N N A  M A N D E LJenna Mandel (SKMC 2024) is from Ambler, PA and took two gap years before medical school during which she worked at a biopharmaceutical startup. Her varied surgical interests include cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, and surgical oncology. During her free time, she enjoys playing with her dog Charlie, exploring National Parks, and weightlifting.S H A L E  M A C KShale Mack (SKMC 2024) is from Deerfield, IL. His  interests include thoracic surgery, pediatric surgery, and surgical oncology. He enjoys running, reading, and skiiing in his free time. She worked as a research technician at Weill Cornell during her gap year. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, singing, painting, and cooking. Before med school, she worked on research at Penn doing surgeries on rat hearts. She enjoys any and all creative pursuits including photo editing, henna designs, and making handmade cards. In her gap year she taught middle school math with AmeriCorps. She is interested in colorectal and breast surgery and surgical oncology. Her favorite restaurant is Little Nonna’s!Ryan Nachwalter (SKMC 2022) is from Livingston, NJ. He loves all types of surgery and is a proud member of Gibbon! His hobbies include skiing, running, and playing football. He recommends that you check out Sampan!Julia Gong (SKMC 2022) is from Wayne, PA. Her surgical interests include breast surgery, vascular surgery, and minimally-invasive surgery. When she’s not in the OR, she is a loving plant mom and also enjoys yoga and baking. B R I G I T T E  A N D E R S O N F R A N C E S C A  P O N Z I N I Brigitte Anderson (SKMC 2023) is originally from Wilmington, DE. She worked with a colorectal surgeon during her gap year before medical school, which was instrumental in confirming her love for surgery! A fun fact about Brigitte is that she has dual citizenship in the U.S. and Switzerland.Francesca Ponzini (SKMC 2024) is from Wayne, NJ. She has been actively involved with the Je!erson Pancreas, Biliary and Related Cancer Center since her M1 year and wants to pursue a career in surgical oncology. Gibbon Jr., M.D., Je!erson professor and chairman of the Department of Surgery (1956-1967), is renowned in medical history as the inventor of the heart-lung machine, which made possible the world’s first successful open-heart operation at Je!erson in 1953. Dr. Gibbon focused international attention on Je!erson by ushering in a new era of cardiac surgery.M O R E  I N F O  >D R .  C H A R L E S  Y E ODr. Charles Yeo graduated from Princeton University in 1975 and attended medical school at Johns Hopkins University, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies. He completed his residency at Johns Hopkins before pursuing a research fellowship at SUNY Downstate. He joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins in 1985. In 2005, he was named the Samuel D. Gross Professor and Chairman of Surgery at Je!erson. Dr. Yeo’s major accomplishments have been in the fields of surgical education, clinical care of patients with complex hepatobiliary diseases, and pancreatic cancer research. Dr. Yeo is well-acclaimed for the Whipple procedure, and was the first to develop the mini-Whipple. He also serves on the Board of Trustees at Je!erson. R E N E E  T H O L E YDr. Renee Tholey is a Je!ersonian through and through! She completed medical school and residency at Je!erson before completing her fellowship in Adv. GI and Minimally Invasive Surgery at NY Presbyterian/ Weill Cornell Medical College. She is a bariatric surgeon and has returned to Je!erson to serve as the Director of Surgical Undergraduate Education. C H A I R M A N  O F  S U R G E R Y D R .  T Y L E R  G R E N D ADr. Tyler Grenda attended medical school right here at Je!erson before going on to complete general surgery residency and thoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan. He is a thoracic surgeon with special interest in lung cancer.
