Abstract

Psychological care for patients and families during their end of life stage is highly respected in palliative care. It is a patient's right to have appropriate psychological care, and it also is a caregiver's responsibility to make it. Even though the psychological care is greatly valued, however, psychologists have not been included in the palliative care team until the recent decade. The complexity of the psychologists' role and function in palliative care, and the diverse communication styles and jargons among the multi-disciplinary medical team, challenge the novice psychologists and make them confused when they just acquire this position. In this article, studies about psychologists in the end of life care were reviewed. The authors expected the information could provide the novice psychologists a reference to elaborate their professional efficiency when taking part in the interdisciplinary team. Besides, we also aimed to improve the staff’s understanding of how to cooperate with a psychologist in order to optimize the team’s effectiveness and care quality
