Harlan, Charming, Freital. A media pictorially speculation about the interrelations of global Hillbillyism and local ethno-centrism in the US-TV-series True Detective, Justified and Sons of Anarchy (and in Saxony, for instance)

Abstract

US-Fernsehserien wie ‹True Detective›, ‹Justified› und ‹Sons of Anarchy› erzeugen Bilder von Hillbillys, die sich weltweit verbreiten und, wenn entsprechende sozalstrukturelle und soziokulturelle Voraussetzungen vorliegen, vielerorts lokale Entwicklungen eines Hillbillytums fördern. So bildet das Hillbillytum ein Rhizom und kodiert beiläufig, die aus der New Left stammenden Intentionen der Cultural Studies so um, dass sie zukünftig besser zur neuen (und auch nicht ganz so neuen) Rechten passen. Neue Gegenstrategien bleiben zu erfinden. Auch dabei können die genannten und andere Fernsehserien helfen.US-TV-series like ‹True Detective›, ‹Justified› and ‹Sons of Anarchy› produce images of Hillbillies that spread all over the world and, if corresponding socio structural and sociocultural preconditions are given, support local developments of Hillbillyism in many places. In doing so, the Hillbillyism forms a rhizome, recoding the originally intended New Left influences of Cultural Studies in a way for them to fit better with the New (or even not this new) Right. New counter strategies need to be invented. The named and other TV-series might significantly contribute to reaching this objective
