Social Work in Shelters for Women and Children

Abstract

This diploma work deals with the subject of asylum houses for mothers and children. Its theoretical part describes services provided by asylum houses, general information on asylum houses, their daily work, goals, workers and cooperation with other institutions. The reasons why mothers come to asylum houses are discussed, such as bad bad living conditions or violence at home. The endangered families are considered and how various situations influence the families. The work reflects on possibilities of solving the clients' situation - i.e. their leaving the asylum house and subsequent accommodation.. The practical part is based on a survey among social workers working in asylum houses for mothers and children. With respect to the theoretical part, it examines the reasons for coming to an asylum house, the extents of the service provided by the houses to various groups of clients and subsequent solution to client's situation
