Pickett (jlpickett@liberty.edu) Abstract This research presents support on the how the military views and handles the marriage and family issues during times of long deployments or long separations.  The research topics allow room for further research exploration and comparison on the same subject, or expansion into other areas of consideration.  Using Dr. Oblea’s 2016 study on the short-term effect of military separation on the behavioral health of wives study he used prospective descriptive design from a sample completed pre- and post- deployment separation.  The research addresses a variety of aspects relating back to the overall subject of long deployment and separations on the relationship of the marriage and the ramifications not only to the marriage but effects to the children, extended families, and organizations in dealing with these crises.  Dr. Sebastian Negrusa (2014) utilized a descriptive statistics of the sample showing a distribution by military service mirrors the actual profile of the armed forces.  This research shows that this topic requires long-term, in depth, all-encompassing research to give a whole view of the problem of the crises that arise from the separations contributing to the end of relationships and what, if any, can be done to prevent or mitigate the results.  Dr. McNaulty (2015) used a three-step approach to her questioning methods during interviews covering details of their divorce and factors contributing to the divorce.  The research address military, but applies to conventional business perspectives as well, and apply back to the subject making proposals to the military to make a more aggressive stance for the nuclear family.  Routon (2017) shows existing information on military service and marital stability by the timing of the effects of military service on the probability of marital dissolution.  The research will show that there is a difference in couples using intervention programs pre-deployment and post-deployment separations compared to those that do not use any intervention program.
