Abstract

The bulk of the collection c onsists of approx. 50 letters from Hedwig and Berthold Edelmuth in Reiskirchen, Hesse (Germany) to their daughters, Gertrude and Sylvia, in New York, describing daily life in a small German town during constant rising of hardship and persecution, 1937 to 1941. Also included are correspondence by others and Gertrude Edelmuth’s friendship book.Two sisters, Gertrude and Sylvia Edelmuth from Reiskirchen in Hesse (Germany) left their parents in 1937 for New York. The parents, Hedwig and Berthold Edelmuth, were murdered during the Holocaust in 1941.Processeddigitize
