Student barometer of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences 2016 : Results from daytime degree students, students in multimodal study modules, and master’s students

Abstract

Seinäjoen ammattikorkeakoulussa yksi käytetty koulutuksen laadun mittari on opiskelijabarometri. Nyt käsillä oleva Opiskelijabarometri 2016 -tutkimus pitää sisällään Seinäjoen ammattikorkeakoulun päivä- ja monimuoto-opiskelijoiden sekä ylempää ammattikorkeakoulututkintoa suorittavien opiskelijoiden barometrikyselyjen tulokset. Päiväopiskelijoille opiskelijabarometri toteutettiin jo 11. kertaa (aik. nuoret) ja monimuoto-opiskelijoille (aik. aikuiset) 7. kertaa. Ylemmän amk:n opiskelijat osallistuivat opiskelijabarometriin toista kertaa, edellisen kerran vuonna 2015. Tämän opiskelijabarometritutkimuksen tavoitteena oli arvioida koulutuksen laatua opiskelu- ja ohjauskäytäntöjen edelleen kehittämiseksi. Tavoitteena oli selvittää opiskelijoiden arvioita opiskelusta, opiskelujärjestelyistä, kansainvälisyydestä ja työelämäyhteyksistä sekä ammattikorkeakoulun tukipalveluista. Tutkimuksen yhtenä tärkeänä tavoitteena on vallitsevan tilanteen kuvaamisen lisäksi nostaa esille myös ajassa tapahtuvia muutoksia ja muutoksen suuntaa. Opiskelijabarometritutkimuksen kyselyt toteutettiin kohderyhmiin kuuluville Seinäjoen ammattikorkeakoulun opiskelijoille internetkyselynä loka-marraskuussa 2016. Päiväopiskelijoista kyselyyn vastasivat toisen vuosikurssin ja valmistuvan vuosikurssin opiskelijat, monimuoto-opiskelijoista tutkintoon johtavassa koulutuksessa olevat toisesta vuosikurssista alkaen ja kaikki ylempää AMK-tutkintoa suorittavat opiskelijat. Kyselyyn vastasi 868 päiväopiskelijaa, 303 monimuoto-opiskelijaa ja 77 ylempää AMK-tutkintoa suorittavaa opiskelijaa. Seinäjoen ammattikorkeakoulun opiskelijat olivat pääosin tyytyväisiä koulutukseensa. Toinen vuosikurssi oli hiukan valmistuvia tyytyväisempi ja monimuoto-opiskelijat olivat yleisesti ottaen tyytyväisempiä kuin päiväopiskelijat. Kokonaisuudessaan Seamkin päivä- ja monimuoto- opiskelijoiden tyytyväisyys oli hieman alemmalla tasolla kuin kaksi vuotta aikaisemmin 2014. Ylempää AMK-tutkintoa suorittavat opiskelijat olivat kokonaisuudessaan kaikkein tyytyväisin opiskelijaryhmä. Ylempää AMK-tutkintoa suorittavien opiskelijoiden tulokset olivat pääosin parempia tai samalla tasolla kuin edellisessä tutkimuksessa 2015. Yamk-opiskelijat ovat lähes kaikki työssäkäyviä ja noin puolet opiskelee päivittääkseen ammattitaitoaan. Kaksikolmasosaa saa käyttää työnantajan tiloja ja laitteita opiskeluun ja kaksiviidesosaa saa opiskella työajalla. Ylivoimaisesti eniten he kokevat kehittämistarpeena olevan YAMK-tutkintojen ja –opetuksen tunnettuuden lisäämisen. SeAMKin strategian kannalta keskeisistä teemoista kansainvälisyys oli pysynyt päivä- ja monimuoto-opiskelijoilla likimain samalla tasolla ja ylempää AMK-tutkintoa suorittavilla kehittynyt myönteiseen suuntaan. Opiskelijoiden kokema yrittäjyysvalmius oli puolestaan päiväopiskelijoilla pysynyt ennallaan, monimuotoopiskelijoilla laskenut ja ylempää AMK-tutkintoa suorittavilla parantunut. Opiskelijabarometrin tuloksia hyödynnetään tutkinto-ohjelmien kehittämistyössä.The Student Barometer study is one of the indicators of quality of education in use at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. The present Student Barometer 2016 study includes the survey results from the Bachelor students of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences in daytime and multimodal programmes and its Master students. The Student Barometer was already conducted for the 11th time among daytime students (referred to as ‘young people’ in the previous study), and for the seventh time among students in multimodal implementations (‘adults’ in the prev. study). Master students participated in the Student Barometer study for the second time; the previous time had been in 2015. The aim of this Student Barometer study was to assess the quality of education in order to further improve the study and supervision practices at SeAMK. The goal was to explore students’ opinions about the studies, study arrangements, internationalization and working life connections, and about the support services of the University of Applied Sciences. Apart from describing the current situation, another important objective of the survey was to bring out changes taking place in time, and the direction of those changes. The Student Barometer surveys were conducted online among the SeAMK students belonging to the target groups in October-November 2016. Of the daytime students, the survey was answered by the second-year students and the graduating students; of the students in multimodal implementations, by the second-year and older Degree students, respectively, as well as by all the Master students. The survey was answered by 868 daytime students, 303 students in multimodal implementations, and 77 Master students. The students of Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences were mainly satisfied with their studies. The second-year students were slightly more satisfied than the graduating students, and the students in multimodal implementations were generally more satisfied than the daytime students. Altogether, satisfaction among the daytime and multimodal students was at a slightly lower level than two years before, in 2014. As a whole, the Master students were the most satisfied student group. The results from them were mainly better or at the same level as in the previous study, conducted in 2015. Almost all the Master students work, and about half of them study to update their professional competencies. Two thirds of them have the opportunity to use their employers’ facilities and equipment for their studies, and two fifths are allowed to study during working hours. As the most urgent need for improvement, they mentioned the visibility of Master’s Degrees and Programmes provided by the universities of applied sciences. Of the key themes for the strategy of SeAMK, internationalisation had remained approximately at the same level in the daytime and multimodal students’ responses and improved in the Master students’ responses. By contrast, the scores for perceived possession of entrepreneurial competencies had remained at the same level among the daytime students, gone down among the students in multimodal implementations, and improved among the Master students.
