The scrapbook contains clippings, leaflets, brochures, correspondence, and photographs from ca. 1930 to 1957, covering the education and early careers of Walter Plaut and his wife Hadassah, née Yanich.Interspersed with clippings, photographs and correspondence are publications from synagogues, colleges and various Jewish organizations, like Beth Jacob in Cincinnati, Ohio; Hadassah; Hashomer Hatzair ; Hebrew Union College; Herzl Camp in Webster, Wisconsin; Mount Zion Temple in St. Paul; Temple Emanuel in Duluth, Minnesota ; University of Michigan; Wayne University; and others.digitizedWalter H. Plaut (1919-1964) served as rabbi at congregations in Iowa and North Dakota, before coming to Temple Emanuel of Great Neck, NY in 1955.Jonas Plaut (born 1880 in Willingshausen/Hesse, died 1948 in Fargo/USA) was the director of the Baruch-Auerbachsche orphan asylum in Berlin between 1922 and 1939. He emigrated with his wife Selma to England in 1939 and to the USA in 1945. They had two sons: Walter and Guenther, who were both rabbis in Canada and in The U.S.Rabbi Harry Margoli
