The female protagonists of Louise Dupre's La memoria and La Voie lactee suffer psychological distress because of their traumatic past. Taking personal responsibility for the narrative of their inner story which presents the full subjectivity of their intimate feelings and perceptions, they begin to search for their personal identity in order to be able to live in the present moment and recover their trust in the future. Love, friendship and artistic creation contribute to their identity quest. Their psychological evolution throughout the novel is expressed indirectly through their existential experience of time and space (house, city, travel), as they go from confinement to opening
