Fluctuation multipole mechanism of long-range interaction in solutions of colloidal particles

Abstract

The effect of charge fluctuations in the diffuse part of the electrical double layer on the character of interaction between remote particles is studied. The first terms of asymptotic expansions of the corresponding contributions to the pair interparticle potential are found in an explicit form, and they are compared to the energy of van der Waals interactions. The role of long-range contributions assigned to the anisotropic distribution of the surface charges is studied for the case of slightly deformed spherical particles
