' Paul Badura-Skoda ' •.. the recital showed some distinguished highlights, and throughout displayed a genuine sense of artistry and sensltivity . •• havlng said that the playing showed great subUety and a real sense of color and variety, particularly In quiet passages, and there was throughout a sense of a real communicative force in the playing which was very persuasive.• Ronan O'Hara Taiwanese pianist Pel-Chun Liao began her musical studies at the age of three end received her music training et the Taipei National University of the Arts with Tai• Cheng Chen and Michael Dellinger in Taipei. In 2001 , she moved to Europe and continued her studies at the Birmingham Conservatoire, with Malcolm Wilson and Philip Martin, graduated with Distinction in both her Masters for the Arts and Diploma In Performance Studies, and at the Muslkhochschule in Frelburg in Germany with Professor Vitali Berzon, graduated wlth the highest award (Auszelchnung). She regularly participated al masterclasses given by pianists Including Fou Ts'ong, Leon Fleisher, Peter Donohoe, Jacques Rouvier, Hans Leygraf, Paul Badura-Skoda, Stephen Kovacevlch and Robert Levin. Liao performs Internationally as a concerto soloist, recitalist. and chamber musician. She made appearances at prestigious venues around the world Including her UK debut at Birmingham Symphony Hali where her recital received a special mention, Manchester Peel Hall, Mozarteum Wiener Saal (Salzburg). Salle Cortot (Paris), Rachmaninoff Hall (Tambov), Halifax International Young Musician Festival, Presleigne Music Society, London Forge venue, Caine Marden House, Knighton Chamber Music Society, Barber Institute (UK). As a soloist, she performed with National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Bacau Philharmonic Orchestra.Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Hunan Symphony Orchestra. She is a prizewinner of numerous competitions, including 3rd prize et the Taipei Chopin International Competillon, the Taiwan Young Artist Competition. In the UK she won the Beryl Chempin Beethoven Prize, Birmingham Conservatoire Piano Prize, Renna Kellaway Piano Recital CompellUon, Birmingham Symphony Hall Reci tal Prize and lhe Ludlow Philharmonic Concerto Prize. She also received the 2nd Prize et the 7th Mauro Paolo Monopoli International Plano Competition (2004) in Italy and was selected by the concert association in Caslilla y Leon to participate as a chamber musician in a concert lour In 2005 and 2006. In 2009 she was selected as •voung Star of National Concert Hall" in Taiwan. In 2017, Her busy schedule includes a recital and masterclass In Illinois State University, as a guest artist al the Chamber Music Festival in Washburn University and lntemallonal Plano Festival and Competition at Lee University. In 2018. Liao was invited lo join as guest artist el University of Tennessee, Lee University, San Jose University and Birmingham Conservatoire in the UK and Xiamen lnlemaUonal Piano Festival In China. Liao is currently an assistant professor on the piano faculty at University of Taipei in Taiwan.
