He received his Ph.D. in Musicology from Cornell University. His research examines 17th century French lute performance, the Latin American bolero romantico, and primary sources of Latin American big band music. Torres's research has appeared in the Journal of I the Lute Society of America, Symposium, American Music, Notes, and the Yearbook for Traditional Music . As a professor at St. Lawrence University, Torres directed the I I Caribbean and Latin American Studies program. At Grinnell College, along with teaching courses in music history and world music, he founded the Latin American Performance Ensemble. Currently associate professor in the music department at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, Torres coordinates the Latin American and Caribbean Studies interdisciplinary minor, and he teaches history of western music, American popular music, and teaches in the first-year seminar program. She studied modern and baroque flute with Kathleen Kraft of Sebastapol, California and Cynthia Stokes of St. Paul, Minnesota. She has been a member of Musica Humana, the 1-35 Baroque Ensemble, Basically Baroque and soloed with the Baroque Orchestra of Iowa and the Kansas City Early Music Consort. Stuhr has two recordings, Sonatas for Flute and Harpsichord, Opus 91 by Joseph Bodin de Bois·mortier performed with harpsichordist John Rommereim (Centaur Records, Inc., 1996) and Flute Sonatas, Opus 2 by Benedetto Marcello performed with Mary Pshonik, baroque cello and Lynn Zeigler, harpsichord (Centaur, 2003). She is a member of the Grinnell College library faculty.
