Turning Monitoring Data into Simple Population Growth Models: Getting your Ducks in a Row  Holly Gaff, Old Dominion University  Abstract: Raw data are very messy. Frequently when students are taught ecological modeling, they start from published data or results. These students may also learn some data handling in statistics classed. However, bridging these concepts is often neglected. A simple case study will be presented where a true dataset is used to parameterize a simple population growth model. Common mistakes and missteps will be discussed.
