eUvodna riječDrugi broj časopisa može označiti početak određene tradicije izlaženja što upućuje na činjenicu da prethodni broj nije bio slučajnost, nekakav hir skupine ljudi bez volje za radom na duge staze. Naravno, potrebno je zadržati primjerenu razinu kritičkog mišljenja te uvidjeti da se i Essehist još bori s pojedinim ''dječjim bolestima'' koncipiranja i uređivanja časopisa, Ipak, nadamo se kako će ovo ostati vrijedan projekt budućim generacijama studenata povijesti. Na tom tragu uredništvu je iznimno drago što su se u realizaciju ovog broja uključili i mlađi kolege od kojih su neki tek upisali fakultet.Ideja tematskog broja zadržana je i u ovom izdanju Essehista tako da se svi objavljeni tekstovi bave poviješću grada Osijeka. Navedena tema činila nam se posebno zanimljivom zbog mogućnosti podrobnijeg terenskog, odnosno arhivskog istraživanja. O kvalitativnom napretku časopisa svjedoči nam i broj izvora korištenih za pisanje radova. Okvirno govoreći, ovaj broj obuhvaća povijest Osijeka od Kelta i Rimljana pa sve do suvremenog doba. Potrebno je napomenuti da je ovakav izbor teme broja neizbježno ograničio mogućnost odabira vanjskih suradnika, no već sa sljedećim izdanjem i temom šireg opsega to bi trebalo biti ispravljeno. Bez obzira na to, tekstovi književnika Ervina Heinea, umjetnika Maria Matokovića i arheologinje Jasne Šimić iznimno su kvalitetni i zanimljivi te nam je drago što smo uspjeli ostvariti suradnju. Osim radova vezanih uz temu broja tu se nalazi i nekoliko prigodnih tekstova poput recenzije filma, prikaza knjige, izvješća o aktivnosti udruge ISHA-Osijek, razgovora s profesoricom Božić Bogović itd. Kao novosti možemo izdvojiti okvire sa zanimljivostima unutar pojedinih tekstova te kompilaciju kronoloških događanja vezanih uz temu broja.Ovom prilikom, u ime članova udruge ISHA-Osijek, htio bih se zahvaliti svima koji su dali svoj doprinos u izradi drugog broja časopisa studenata povijesti Filozofskog fakulteta u Osijeku. 1UVODNA RIJEČKao i prethodna dva izdanja i ovaj je broj Essehista tematski određen. Nakon tekstova o diktatorima, totalitarnim režimima, Osijeku i njegovoj bogatoj prošlosti, na red su došle revolucije, povijesne prekretnice u svojim različitim manifestacijama i prostorno-vremenskoj određenosti. Kako to već obično biva, broj suradnika se povećao tako da sada imate priliku pročitati više radova nego prije. Osim toga, po prvi put objavljujemo tekst i intervju s dvama stranim profesorima, povjesničarima sa sveučilišta iz Pečuha i Graza. Nezahvalno bi bilo govoriti o nekoj vrsti sažetka najvažnijih povijesnih revolucija budući da je tako što, barem u ovoj formi studentskog časopisa, gotovo nemoguće izvesti. Ipak, raznolikost članaka po pitanju problemske analize spomenutog fenomena je zajamčena; iako se većina tekstova odnosi na političke revolucije, pojedini radovi dotiču se i drugih kulturoloških aspekata, bilo da je riječ o filozofskim promišljanjima, lingvistici, medicini, konzumerizmu ili novim pristupima historiografiji. Tako je konačno napravljen značajniji iskorak u odnosu na prethodna dva broja po pitanju interdisciplinarnosti koja predstavlja jednu od osnovnih ideja Essehista. Unatoč ‘’probijanju’’ svih postavljenih rokova uspjeli smo zaključiti i ovaj broj koji je na simboličnoj razini vezan uz temu kojom se bavi. Naime, unutar same udruge ISHA-Osijek i uredništva časopisa dogodila se prava mala revolucija, nenasilna i poželjna u svakom slučaju. Nakon nekoliko godina aktivnog sudjelovanja u radu udruge veći dio ‘’stare garde’’ odlazi i s diplomom u ruci napušta fakultet. Na njihovo mjesto dolaze mlađi kolege koji će preuzeti kormilo i nastaviti tamo gdje smo mi stali. Odlučeno je da će se četvrti broj pozabaviti kolonizacijom kroz povijest, a kontaktiranjem suradnika putem e-mailova te pisanjem uvodne riječi bavit će se nova glavna urednica, kolegica Sanja Banjeglav. Spomenimo i kako će Marka Bagića na mjestu predsjednika udruge zamijeniti Loredana Fabijanić.Sve u svemu, nije naodmet reći kako je Essehist projekt kojemu su doprinijela mnogobrojna imena, a prije svega mladi ljudi i entuzijasti. THIS AGREEMENT
By and between..... .1.... —----------------------------------------- ---------  herein­
after called the ‘•'Company,” of the first part, and United Retail and Whoesale Employees of America, Local 
Union No_________ ___ __  (affiliated with C. I. 0 .), hereinafter called the “Union,”  of the second part, W IT­
NESSETH;
Clause 1. For and in consideration of the recognition by the Company of the Union as the exclusive 
bargaining agent for all employees, except managers and assistant managers of the stores, the Union agrees 
to exert its power as an affiliated member of organized labor to promote the welfare, increase the sales of, 
and promote the efficient operations of the Company.
Clause 2. A  period of thirty (30) days employment for any new person employed by the Company 
will be allowed for the purpose of observing the competency of such person, after which, i f  retained, such 
person shall become a member of the Union. The reason for the dismissal of any employee shall be given 
to the representatives of the Union upon demand.
Clause 3. Should any matter of dispute arise between the Company and its employees, or any of 
them, the same shall first be brought to the attention of the Store Manager for adjustment, and if not set­
tled within five days from the time when so referred, then such matter shall, at the option of either party 
hereto be referred to a board of arbitrators consisting of four persons, two of whom shall be chosen by the 
Company and two of whom shall be chosen by the Union. The decision of such board of arbitrators shall be 
final and conclusive upon the parties hereto, but in the event of their failure to agree by a majority vote with­
in five days of the reference of said matter to such arbitrators, then and in such case the matter shall be 
referred to a permanent umpire to be selected jointly by the Company and the Union, whose decision shall 
be final. The decision of any three of the board of arbitrators thus set up shall be final and binding upon both 
parties hereto.
Clause 4. It is agreed that the following days of each year in which this agreement shall be in ef­
fect shall be, if desired by the Union or the employees, regarded as holidays on which the employees shall 
not be required to report at the store or stores, viz: New Years Day, April 1st, Memorial Day, July 4th, La­
bor Day, Armistice Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas or any days which may be celebrated in lieu of 
any of the foregoing.
It is further agreed than all employees who have served from one to five years shall be entitled to have 
and shall receive a vacation period of one full week each year thereafter with full pay. Employees having ser­
ved five years or more shall be entitled to and receive a vacation period of ten working days each year with 
full pay. It is further understood that the periods of vacation for the several employees shall be arranged 
by the Store Manager.
Clause 5. It is agreed between the parties hereto that it is the intent of this agreement that both 
parties shall undertake to promote an intelligent understanding between all persons concerned and to be ben- 
efitted under this agreement. The Company shall display in each store room a Union card to be furnished by 
the Local Union. /It is further agreed that dishonesty on the part of any empolyee shall be the cause of in­
stant dismissal.
Clause 6. It is further agreed that forty-four hours shall constitute a normal week’s work, and that 
eight hours shall constitute a normal day’s work. It is further agreed that stores shall close at noon one 
day each week. It is also agreed by the Union that forty-height (48) hours shall constitute the maximum 
number of hours that any employee may work during the period of a year to take care of peak seasons, and 
the working of such additional hours by any employee shall not change his basic rate nor entitle him to ad­
ditional compensation. The foregoing half holidays, at the discretion of the Company, may be considered 
peak periods.
Clause 7. The Company reserves the right as follows: The management of the stores in all respects, 
the direction of the employees, the right to hire and discharge, are vested exclusively in the manager of the 
store, and the Union shall not attempt to abridge these rights. It is hereby declared that it is not the inten­
tion of this provision to encourage the discharge of employees or the refusal of employment to applicants be­
cause of personal prejudice or their activity in matters affecting the Union.
Clause 8. All store employees shall be paid semi-monthly and the pay days shall not be later than the 
fifth and twentieth day of each month, respectively. The Union further agrees that it will tender a contract 
not less favorable to the Union than the one herein contained to competitors of the Company, and shall use 
all reasonable efforts to have the same executed. The intent of this clause is to provide that all competitors 
of the Company executing this agreement shall be placed upon an equal basis with the Company as to Union 
recognition and as to basic wages to be paid to store employees.
Clause 9. The Company agrees to collect from its employees who are covered by this agreement, 
from their wages or salaries, the Union initiation fee of Three ($3.00) Dollars, and the current dues of One 
($1.00) Dollar per month, the Union agreeing hereby to furnish the Company with assignment cards from 
the employees authorizing such deduction. All initiation fees and dues so collected by the Company shall be 
remitted to the Union at the place designated by the Union for such purpose.
Clause 10. In event of the necessity for reduction in number of employees at the store, the Mana­
ger shall confer with the store committee as to whether employees shall have equal or partial distribution of 
work or lay-off. Those laid off will be within a reasonable period first offered work opportunity in his or her 
previous occupation when it becomes necessary to increase personnel.
Clause 11. It is further distinctly declared as being understood and agreed by both parties hereto 
that this agreement shall be kept inviolate in all of its terms by both parties, and that all differences there­
under shall be arbitrated as hereinbefore provided, and that walk-outs, lock-outs and other stoppages of or 
interference with work caused by either the Company or the Union or the employees are hereby prohibited.
Clause 12. All wages and classifications in the contract expiring June— ^---- .1-----------193^  shall
continue in full force during the period covered by this agreement. ^
Clause 13. This agreement shall remain in force until the 30th day of June, £99%, and from year to 
year thereafter unless notice is given by one party hereto to the other at least thirty days prior to the ex­
piration of any yearly period of the intention to terminate this agreement.
IN  WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties hereto have caused this agreement to be signed and sealed this

UNITED RETAIL AND WHOLESALE EMPLOYEES OF AMERICA.
It is further agreed upon and understood by both parties hereto ascribed, that the wage scale and 
other conditions attached hereto, is hereby made a part of this agreement, and shall be, and is hereby accepted 
as the Minimum Wage, Salaries, and Rates in force.
The following are adopted as the basic rates of salary or wages for the employees of the Company 
under this agreement:
DELIVERYMEN: Basic rate or minimum $80.00 per month. An increase of ten per cent to all em­
ployees in this classification receiving from $80.00 to $110.00 per month, an increase of five per cent to 
all employees in this classification receiving from $110.00 upward. The above classification of deliverymen 
refers to one engaged in full or part time in the delivery of merchandise or partly engaged in other store 
work.
MEAT CUTTERS in charge of meat markets: Basic rate or minimum $110.00 per month. An in­
crease of seven per cent to all employees in this classification receiving from $110.00 to $125.00 per mon­
th; an increase of five per cent to all employees receiving from $125,000 to $140.00; an increase of three 
per cent to all employees receiving upward of $140.00.
Male Helpers while engaged in meat markets shall be classified under male clerks.
Female Helpers while engaged in meat markets shall be classified under female clerks.
MALE CLERKS: Basic rate or minimum $75.00 per month. An increase of seven per cent to all 
employees receiving from $75.00 to $100.00 per month, an increase of five per cent to all employees receiv­
ing from $100.00 to $120.00 per month; an incresae of three per cent to all employees receiving from 
$120.00 upward.
FEMALE CLERKS: Basic or minimum rate is $50.00. An increase of ten per cent to all employees 
receiving from $50.00 to $75.00 per month. An increase of five per cent to all employees receiving from 
$75.00 upward.
HEAD BOOKKEEPER: Basic or minimum rate is $75.00. An increase of ten per cent to all em­
ployees in this classification from $75.00 upward.
APPRENTICED HELP—M ALE : First six months of employment $55.00. From six to twelve 
months $60.00. From twelve to eighteen months $70.00.
APPRENTICED HELP— FEMALE: First twelve months $45.00. Basic rate thereafter.

1UVODNA RIJEČNakon gotovo godinu dana dogovaranja, pisanja i rješavanja različitih tehničkih pitanja, časopis studenata povijesti i drugih humanističkih znanosti s Filozofskog fakulteta u Osijeku završen je. Iako se ponekad rad na ovom projektu činio poput besmislene borbe s vjetrenjačama kojoj nema kraja, ipak smo zahvaljujući zajedničkom trudu i upornosti uspjeli izdati prvi broj Essehista. Tekstovi su popularnoznanstveni i obrađuju temu totalitarizma, s posebnim naglaskom na događanja u dvadesetom stoljeću. Odlučili smo se za tematski broj, ali nismo sigurni hoćemo li tu praksu zadržati i u budućnosti. Sve ovisi o inspiraciji i želji studenata da određeni problem analiziraju iz što više aspekata. Vanjski suradnici u ovom su broju sociolog Dražen Šimleša i teolog Ivica Šola, kojima se zahvaljujemo na ukazanom povjerenju i priloženim radovima. Prilikom lektoriranja tekstova korištena su dva pravopisa: Hrvatski pravopis, Stjepan Babić, Božidar Finka, Milan Moguš, 4. izdanje, Školska knjiga, Zagreb, 1996. te Hrvatski školski pravopis, Stjepan Babić, Sanda Ham, Milan Moguš, u izdanju Školske knjige, Zagreb, 2005. Na taj smo način odlučili ispoštovati osobne preference pojedinih autora, kao i pravo na različito mišljenje općenito. Izvori se navode unutar samih tekstova u zagradama, a kompletan popis korištene literature nalazi se na kraju svakog rada. Zahvaljujemo profesorima i asistentima koji su nam korisnim savjetima pomogli u realizaciji časopisa. Nadamo se kako će kompilacija različitih tekstova na temu totalitarizma, što ih sadrži prvi broj Essehista, biti dobar početak i poticaj za daljnje istraživanje studentima i svim ostalim zaljubljenicima u povijest, jer povijesna nas znanost uči i osvjetljava sve tragove prošlosti koje možemo i ne moramo slijediti u budućnosti.
