O presente estudo foi realizado numa escola do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico de um Agrupamento de Escolas de Viseu, no sentido de perceber qual é o contributo das histórias, contadas em contexto de sala de aula, no desenvolvimento de conceitos de amizade, respeito e diferença, em alunos do 3.º ano de escolaridade. Para a recolha de dados, utilizou-se uma primeira entrevista, a observação participante, a pesquisa documental, relativa às atividades e diferentes desafios propostos sobre um corpus, escolhido de acordo com os objetivos definidos no início do estudo e, no final, uma segunda entrevista, que serviu para comparar os resultados obtidos antes e após a implementação do estudo empírico. Esta investigação permite concluir que a Literatura Infantil tem uma grande importância na promoção e desenvolvimento de valores, na melhoria das relações do Eu com o Outro, assim como no enriquecimento de vocabulário relacionado com a educação para a cidadania.ABSTRAT: The present study was conducted in a school of the first cycle of basic
education of a school grouping in the municipality of Viseu, in order to understand
the contribution of stories, told in the context of the classroom, to the development
of concepts of friendship, respect and difference in pupils of the third year. For data
collection one started out with a first interview, participant observation, and
documentary research, concerning the activities and different challenges proposed
about a corpus chosen according to the objectives defined at the beginning of the
study. In the end, we applied a second interview, which enabled one to compare the
results obtained before and after the implementation of the empirical study. This
investigation allows us to conclude that Children’s Literature has a great importance
in the promotion and development of values, in improving the relations between Self
and Other, as well as in the enrichment of vocabulary related to citizenship
