The functional requalification of the huge Italian education building heritage is a complex operation that considers relevant and current issues: the identification of integrated design solutions enabling the participation of the whole education community, the implementation of the methodologies of Building Information Modelling for asset management, the adoption of sustainable renovation techniques according to minimum environmental criteria. A multidisciplinary research has been developed and focused on the case study of an education building in San Dorligo della Valle, currently not used and subjected to an intervention devoted to a Primary School of Slovenian language. The research led to the development of an innovative and inclusive model capable of orienting the design process towards solutions shared by stakeholders. Moreover, research results also allowed to provide support to the municipality for the editing of tender calls concerning the requalification of the building, thus assuming a future leading role within a network of innovative cross-border schools
