En aquest treball es pretén fer un
estudi sobre els diferents significats o valors contextuals que ha presentat el verb caler en castellà
al llarg de l’evolució històrica. Així mateix, a partir d’aquest estudi presentem una proposta
lexicogràfica per a aquest verb en la qual apareixen reflectides totes les variants semàntiques
d’aquest mot, tant com a verb modal com a verb ple. Sembla justificat pensar, tenint en compte
els diferents exemples d’ús, que caler com a verb ple ha desenvolupat un únic significat (‘(una
cosa) produir interès a algú’) i com a verb modal, un significat subjacent ‘de conveniència o
necessitat’. El context sintàctic en què s’insereix és el que li aporta diferents valors semàntics de
‘necessitat’, ‘conveniència’, ‘obligació’ i ‘possibilitat’, segons el grau de realització que presenta
l’acció que acompanya el verb.This paper is intended to make
a study on the different contextual meanings or values submitted by the verb caler in Spanish
through its historic evolution. Also, from this study we present a lexicographical proposal for
this verb where all its semantic variants (both as modal verb and as full verb) are reflected. It
seems justified to think, considering the different examples of use, that caler as a full verb has
developed a unique meaning (‘(thing) to produce interest in someone’) and as a modal verb, an
underlying meaning of ‘convenience or necessity’. The syntactic context in which it is inserted
brings different semantic values of ‘need’, ‘convenience’, ‘obligation’ and ‘possibility, depending
on the degree of realization that presents the action that accompanies caler
