L'aplicació dels resultats de la recerca en agricultura i producció d'aliments és
objecte de debats que a Europa són particularment complexos. Ha estat proposat
que els objectius essencials de la recerca que serà aplicada a l'agricultura
haurien de ser sobretot garantir l'accés a aliments suficients i segurs per a
les poblacions actuals i les futures. En els debats cal considerar també la necessitat
de disposar de la millor informació possible tenint en compte els conflictes
d'interessos que es presenten. En aquest entorn ens podem plantejar
com podem fer servir l'enorme riquesa d'informació que estem obtenint sobre
les espècies en les quals basem la nostra agricultura i la nostra ramaderia
per contribuir a enfrontar-nos als reptes globals que tenim plantejats. Ens podem
preguntar també sobre els criteris ètics que poden tenir en compte els
diferents actors que intervenen en aquests debats, com poden ser els científics,
els industrials o els pagesos, però també polítics o professionals de la comunicació.The application of the results of research in agriculture and food production is
the subject of debates that are particularly complex in Europe. It has been
proposed that the essential aims of the research that will be applied to agriculture
should be especially to secure access to sufficient and safe foods for
current and future populations. Consideration should also be given in the debates
to the need to have the best possible information while bearing in mind
the conflicts of interest that may arise. Within this framework we may discuss
how to make use of the enormous wealth of information that we are getting
on species on which our agriculture and our animal farming are based to help
to address the global challenges we are facing. We may ask ourselves about
the ethical criteria that may take into account the different actors involved in
these debates, such as scientists, industrialists and farmers, as well as politicians
and journalists
