Abstract

The aim of this paper is to estimate an education production function using a survey collected in the public schools of Mendoza. Through the estimation of a translog technology that enables the evaluation of second order effects, the results of the best fitted model recall what is found in the main literature, although controversial about the validity of this approach and the applied methodologies: the input which contributes the most to explain academic achievement is the socioeconomic background of the student. The model also suggest significant room to descentralized policymaking, without specific references to input policies.education production function, translog function, Argentina
