Operative Wound Infection and Its Prevention

Abstract

Wound infection following operation continues to plague surgeons despite the advent of antibiotics. It has been my impression that operative wounds are poorly cared for at the time of closure, and that prophylactic antibiotics are used ill-advisedly by many surgeons. The literature relaed to these subjects was reviewed and an experiment designed to test my concepts of more adequate topical wound care and proper use of parenteral antibiotics
