AbstractThe removal of large bile duct stones (> 12 mm) after endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST) remains a challenging issue in therapeutic endoscopy. EST followed by large balloon dilation (LBD) has been shown to be effective in patients with large bile duct stones (12–20 mm). In a study performed, complete bile duct stone removal was accomplished in 97.7% of patients, whereas post-procedure complications were observed in 4.4% of the study population. The authors present the case of an 85-year-old man with multiple and large common bile duct stones who underwent LBD followed by stone extraction with an extraction balloon and a dormia basket.
