Shvets, language adviser Oles Honchar Dnipropetrovsk National University  Faculty of Mechanical Engineering: Past and Present  The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was founded in 1921. It was headed by prominent scientists such as: G.E. Evreinov, K.E. Roerich, A. N. Dinnyk, A.M. Epstein, A.O. Ivanov, M.G. Rip, and A.F. Mironyuk. Nowadays, the department is headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor S.Y. Blokhin. Outstanding teachers and scientists A.M. Terpyhoryev and A.N. Dinnyk, member-correspondent O.O. Spivakovsky, professors V.M. Makovsky, V.N. Poturaev, K.E. Roerich, Y.I. Hordina and P.M. Shilov developed demanding requirements for pedagogical skills of teachers, methods and specialism areas of the taught disciplines. Today the teaching staff of the Faculty is 117 persons, among them there are 2 Honored Scientists of Ukraine, 15 doctors of science, professors, 68 candidates of science, associate professors. Badge «Miner's Glory» was awarded to 33 researchers and educators of the faculty, «Miner Valor» – to 1 person, and state awards – to 24 employees. The faculty successfully trains highly qualified specialists who obtain bachelor’s, specialist and master’s degrees in 6 areas such as: road transport, transport technology, engineering mechanics, mechanical engineering, processing of minerals and mining. There are 1,004students now. In recent years, the Department established training centers for technology CAD / CAM / CAE / PDM and CALS Education of Ukraine and SolidWorks Russia, which enables learning through research and promotes adaptation of graduates for the modern world production requirements. Over the past three years 2 students of the faculty have become the winners of the International Student’s Olympiads, 5 students have won in All-Ukrainian Student’s Olympiads. The faculty is engaged in extensive international work, which includes training specialists for such countries as Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Angola, Nigeria, India, Jordan, Israel, Syria and Palestine and study course of students abroad (Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, the USA). Teachers and students involved in the Research and Education Center, which operates through the grant from the Civilian Research and Development Foundation (USA). Scientific articles, monographs and books of the scientists of the facility are published by 34 foreign languages. The faculty trained more than 13,500 engineers, including leaders of industrial associations and enterprises, researchers such as L.A. Weisberg, A.A. Voloshin, A. C. Korotkov, 12 academicians and 8 member-correspondents, 39 professors, 5 laureates of the State Prizes of Ukraine, 3 Honored Scientists of Ukraine, 2 Honored inventors of Ukraine, and 1 Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine.   16
