Figurations of memory(ies) through the crystal of contemporary art: absence and mourning in the photography of Santiago Porter

Abstract

A partir de una preocupación cultural en torno de las formas de elaboración del presente histórico, y de sus transmisiones desde diferentes formas expresivas e instancias institucionales que aportan a la construcción de la memoria histórica y social, en este texto interrogamos el valor educativo de producciones del arte contemporáneo en tanto discursividad que construye determinada relación entre la historia, la memoria, las herencias de la cultura y los lazos comunes. En tal sentido, indagamos el aporte de artistas contemporáneos en la formación de nuestra cultura visual (en el sentido de esthesis y sensibilidad por el mundo que compartimos); y en las elaboraciones de nuestra memoria social (en tanto narrativa compleja que integra diferentes lenguajes, poéticas y retóricas).A través de la obra de Santiago Porter, quien reconstruye memorias afectivas y familiares de las víctimas de la AMIA frente a la tragedia (tomando como objeto de memoria el atentado ocurrido en 1994 en la Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina de Buenos Aires, el cual permanece impune desde hace más de 20 años), realizaremos este acercamiento a una reconstrucción narrativa y visual que toma forma en espacios y campos sensibles de elaboración colectiva, interpelando nuestras experiencias históricas y nuestro legado cultural que sostiene el clamor de justicia y verdad ante el mandato de no olvidar.From a cultural preoccupation around the ways of elaborating the historical present, and from its transmissions through different ways of expressive forms and institutional instances which contribute to the construction of the historical and social memory, in this text we interrogate the educative value of contemporary works of art as discursiveness that build a determined relationship between history, memory, cultural inheritance and common bonds. In this sense we inquire the contribution of contemporary artists in the formation of our visual culture (aisthesis and sensitivity); and in the elaborations of our social memory (as complex narrative that integrates different languages and rhetorics). Through the work of Santiago Porter, who reconstructs affective and family memories of the victims of AMIA (Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina), Buenos Aires, 1994, in the face of tragedy (taking as an object of memory of the terrorist attack which remains unpunished for more than 20 years); we will perform this approach to a narrative and visual reconstruction that is shaped in spaces and fields of memory, by the interpellation of our historical experiences and our collective cultural elaborations that hold our cry for justice and truth in front of the command against oblivion.Fil: Enrico, Juliana.
