Proponemos revisar algunos elementos en torno a la categoría de imaginación en elcruce de dos tradiciones, la de Gastón Bachelard y la lectura crítica que del mismo hace Herbert Marcuse con el propósito de pensar la función emancipadora del arte en clave dialéctica. Para ello seguiremos un trazo en contrapunto, de acercamientos y distanciamientos, que, pasando por la distinción estética entre materia y forma, busca arribar a la problemática política de la liberación de la imaginación en sociedades represivas.We intend a revision of some concepts regarding the imagination category at the
crossing point of two traditions: Gastón Blanchard’s, and its critical interpretation by
Herbert Marcuse. Our purpose is to analyze the emancipating function of art from
the dialectics standpoint. For this, we will use a contrasting procedure of
approaching and moving away, making an aesthetic distinction between matter and
form, and reaching the political issue of imagination liberation within repressive
