The article is dedicated to the Latvian army general, founder of Latvian military history and honorary filister (honorary old member) of the Latvian Students fraternity "Tervetia" Martiņš Peniķis, describing his role in the history of the Latvian state and the University of Latvia, as well as his symbolic significance for the student fraternity itself.
