Acta Clin Croat 2016; 55:517-518 Newsdoi: ??????Acta Clin Croat, Vol. 55, No. 3, 2016  517THE 68TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL FOR TRAUMATOLOGYZagreb, May 20, 2016Celebration of the 68th anniversary of the Univer-sity Hospital for Traumatology, Sestre milosrdnice University Hospital Center, was held on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Croatian Medical Association. Emi-nent guests attended the assembly, which was held by Prof. Aljoša Matejčić, MD, PhD, Head of the Univer-sity Hospital for Traumatology.In his introductory speech, Prof. Matejčić wel-comed all the guests that joined this important mani-festation in honor of the University Hospital for Trau-matology as the top hospital specialized in surgery of the musculoskeletal system and dealing with all sorts of the locomotor system injuries. During 2015, more than 100,000 polyclinic patients were examined, more than 5000 patients hospitalized and more than 6500 surgeries performed, along with 2000 small procedures in the infi rmary. Th e average hospital stay was 8 days. Th e Hospital has 174 beds covered by 24-hour care provided by around 220 staff  members. Th e Hospital has a prominent role in many impor-tant scientifi c projects. Department of Spinal Surgery, headed by Head Doctor Zvonko Kejla, MD, is current-ly a candidate for AOCSC (AO Certifi ed Study Cen-ter), as well as part of the prospective observa tional Eu-ropean multicenter study entitled Prognostic Factors and Th erapeutic Eff ects of Surgical Treatment for Trau-matic Spinal Column Injury with Spinal Cord Injury. Th e Hospital is involved in the Osteogrow project en-titled Novel Bone Morphogenetic Protein 6 Biocom-patible Carrier Device for Bone Regeneration, a project from the fi eld of regenerative medicine in which BMP-6 is used to treat typical radius fractures. Along with Head Doctor Dragan Đurđević, MD, MS and Tomi-slav Vlahović, MD, as Hospital representatives, coordi-nator is Prof. Slobodan Vukičević, MD, PhD, from the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb. Th e project entitled Molecular Basis of Aseptic Hip Instability is also currently under way, led by Prof. Robert Kolundžić, MD, PhD. Head Doctor Tatjana Nikolić, MD is leader of a randomized, clinical trial of odanacatib safety and its role in diminishing the risk of osteoporotic fractures in postmenopausal women on therapy with vitamin D Fig. 1. Several pilot projects are waiting for fi nal approval by the Ministry of Health.In the absence of Prof. Tedi Cicvarić, President of the Croatian Trauma Society, Tomislav Vlahović, MD, invited all those interested to join the 5th Congress of the Croatian Trauma Society to be held on March 23-25, 2017 in Hotel Antunović, Zagreb, Croatia. Fur-thermore, as part of his introduction, Prof. Robert Kolundžić, President of the Croatian Orthopedic So-ciety, expressed thanks for invitation and congratulated on good organization of this manifestation. Disregard-ing all previous disagreements, he invited all those in-volved in treating musculoskeletal issues to unite, since we all have the same goal.Assist. Prof.  Mario Zovak, MD, PhD, Head of the Sestre milosrdnice University Hospital Center, wel-comed the guests once again and showed recognition of the praiseworthy tradition of the University Hospi-tal for Traumatology. He insisted on the idea that  Sestre milosrdnice University Hospital Center be the leading brand in all of its segments, and perceived its potential to be properly utilized through collaboration and synergy of the University Hospital for Traumatol-ogy with University Hospital for Tumors and all other departments located at the main site of the Sestre mi-losrdnice University Hospital Center, i.e. University Hospital for Traumatology, Sestre milosrdnice Univer-sity Hospital Center and University Hospital for Tu-mors. At the end of his speech, Prof. Mario Zovak and Prof. Aljoša Matejčić announced the beginning of the scientifi c part.Th e introduction section was followed by the scien-tifi c part, with lectures on fractures in the wrist joint and hand area. Prof. Roman Pavić, MD, PhD, thor-oughly explained the complicated injuries of big and small arch of the wrist joint, with special reference to the variety of surgical treatments, illustrated by inter-esting cases. Tomislav Vlahović, MD, talked about in-dications and diversity of surgical treatment of scaph-oid bone pseudoarthrosis, especially focusing on diff er-ent classifi cations due to its characteristic vasculariza-tion, type of fracture and time of injury. Head Doctor Mario Malović, MD, showed complete overview of the epidemiology, classifi cation, diagnosis, conservative and surgical treatment of the fractures of carpal bones and especially fractures in the area of metacarpal bones, illustrated with interesting cases. Ivana Župetić, MD, presented a lecture on ultrasound possibilities in the diagnosis of the extensor pollicis longus tendon lesion. Th e last lecture on the topic of rehabilitation after frac-ture in the wrist joint and hand area was held by Head Doctor Tatjana Nikolić, MD, who talked about reha-bilitation process in patients treated at the University Hospital for Traumatology. After all lectures had been presented, Prof. Aljoša Matejčić conducted discussion in which experiences and stands on the mentioned top-ics were exchanged. Petra JurinaStjepan ĆurićFig. 4.
