The author analyzes democracy in the context of social equality, social differentiation and social structure of society by using the economic criterion. The relative social equality is recognized as the essential component of people power, while social polarization is seen as an obstacle. The analysis also includes the attitude of the strata of the Russian society towards democracy, proceeding from their objective position in the social structure. The willingness of the groups, which are different in their economic status and life strategy, to participate in people power is insignificant.Автор рассматривает демократию в контексте социального равенства, социального расслоения и социальной структуры общества по экономическому критерию.
