When the Byards originally came to Oregon, they weren’t looking to buy land and grow grapes but, in 1973, Don eventually found a plot of 20 acres that was similar to what he had seen in Germany. In 1980, alongside Al Alexanderson, Hidden Springs Winery was started.  Throughout the years, the Byard name grew in the industry. Don was the President of the Oregon Winegrower’s Association for a year, learned how to farm biodynamically from Jimi Brooks, and made lasting relationships within the industry.  Content Description This collection contains materials relating to the business life of Don Byard during the time in which he owned Eola Hills Vineyard and co-owned Hidden Springs Winery. Such materials include legal documents, wine bottles and labels, and promotional items.  Restrictions on Access Access is by appointment only. Please contact the archivist to make an appointment.
