Yamhill Community Action Partnership (YCAP) Kemper Internship  Spring 2010 Nadia Abraibesh What is YCAP?   Mission: Advocate for and assist person’s towards self-sufficiency.    Non-profit started in 1980, one of many community action agencies nationwide.   Five programs: food bank, transit, weatherization/energy assistance, transitional housing, youth outreach   For more information:       http://yamhillcap.org/ Why YCAP?   Sophomore Year:    Paper on Youth Homelessness   Governing Council: Ten Year Plan To End Homelessness   Homeless Count and Community                    Connects Event The Internship   Officially started in February, but really    began in January.    Homeless Count   Recruited and managed volunteers for the drop-in sites around the county.    Community Connect   Resource fair to connect individuals to services in the county.   Community Connect   Tasks included:   Phone calls after phone calls   Dentists, Hairstylists, Vets, Social Services   Recruiting volunteers   Donation requests   Meetings with service providers   Feedback/Info from last year   Governing Council updates   IMPORTANT: Connections!   April 14th, 2010 Service Providers Connecting with services Dinner Time! Volunteers Our Musicians  Linfield Students Conducting a Needs Assessment Jeff and Amy Me! Favorite Memories   Footcare nurse   Using my Spanish   Positive Feedback   Teens rocking out with musician  Statistics   Over 250 people came to receive services, not including children.    Over 100 volunteers   Over 100 people from about 50 organizations   Dental van treated 17 people, amounting to $6,010 worth of services   54 pets examined Personal Goals   Learn more about YCAP   Work on the Community Connect event   Learn from other Kemper Interns   What I learned about myself:    Big picture    Relationship with supervisor   Work environment     Final Reflection   Resume Kemper Internship Objectives   An exploratory opportunity to work with an organization which focuses on a local community, environmental issues or local business.    Provide an opportunity for interdisciplinary interaction with your peers through a seminar that meets periodically, in support of your internship.   Provide training and support in documenting and presenting the work you have done in your internship.
