When the subaltern does not speak, but is symbolically represented: The example of syrian women refuge

Abstract

A pesar de que los espacios online se presentan como herramientas clave para que las mujeres musulmanas reformulen las representaciones que persisten sobre ellas en la opinión pública y el discurso político-mediático, siguen prevaleciendo discursos hegemónicos que las relegan a espacios de silenciamiento y de marginación. El presente trabajo, que incorpora la investigación sobre representación simbólica, género y poscolonialismo, sostiene que estos entendimientos estereotipados e «islamofóbicos» silencian sus voces y simplifican su realidad. Para ver esto analizamos el caso de las mujeres refugiadas sirias dentro del discurso occidental y turcoDespite the fact that online spaces are presented as key tools for Muslim women to reform representations that persist over them in public opinion and political-media discourse, prevailing hegemonic discourses that relegate them to spaces of silencing and marginalization.
