Europe engage: Civic engagement and service-learning activities within spanish universities

Abstract

El aprendizaje-servicio es una propuesta pedagógica que integra el servicio comunitario significativo con el currículum. Se presentan en esta contribución resultados parciales de un proyecto Erasmus+KA2 . Con el objetivo de identificar las universidades que desarrollan experiencias de aprendizaje-servicio y conocer su política, práctica y visión estratégica, se diseñó una encuesta sobre compromiso social y actividades de aprendizaje servicio. La encuesta se distribuyó a través de la Red de Aprendizaje-servicio universitario a miembros de 47 universidades. Se obtuvo respuesta de 15 de ellas (11 públicas y 4 privadas). Los resultados encontrados tras la aplicación de la encuesta en las universidades españolas permiten afirmar que se va avanzando en el proceso de institucionalización del Aprendizaje- Servicio. Existe reconocimiento formal del compromiso social y el Aprendizaje-Servicio en los documentos en los que se presenta la misión de las universidades, así como en sus planes estratégicos. Si bien, el reconocimiento es menor en los programas y asignaturas. Es en las páginas web, en las publicaciones y en las conferencias públicas donde se expresa con mayor rotundidad el compromiso social de las universidadesService-learning is a pedagogical proposal that integrates meaningful community service with the curriculum. Partial results of an Erasmus + KA2 project are presented in this contribution. In order to identify the universities that develop service-learning experiences and to know their policy, practice and strategic vision, a survey on civic engagement and service learning activities was designed. The survey was distributed through the University Service-Learning Network to members of 47 universities. A response was obtained from 15 of them (11 public and 4 private). The results found after the application of the survey in the spanish universities show that progress is being made in the process of institutionalization of the Service-Learning. There is formal acknowledgment of civic engagement and Service Learning in the documents in which the mission of the universities is presented, as well as in their strategic plans. However, the acknowledgment is less intense in the programs and subjects.
