Emotional intelligence and academic performance in postgraduate Engineering students from FES Aragón, UNAM

Abstract

A los estudiantes de la Maestría en Ingeniería de la Facultad de Estudios Superiores Aragón de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, integrada por 21 alumnos, se le aplicó el Emotional Intelligence Test de Meyer-Salovey-Caruso (MSCEIT) que evalúa el Coeficiente de Inteligencia Emocional (CIE) a través de los siguientes cuatro criterios: percepción, comprensión y manejo de las emociones y si éstas son utilizadas para facilitar el pensamiento. Para dicha población, se indagó cuál fue su Rendimiento Académico (RA) antecedente a través de conocer su promedio general de calificaciones obtenidas en el nivel inmediato anterior. En los resultados derivados de la aplicación del modelo MSCEIT se observa un comportamiento normalizado, con puntajes que varían desde 88 hasta 118. Respecto al RA de los alumnos de la Maestría en Arquitectura de la FES Aragón, las calificaciones que obtuvieron en su licenciatura, estuvieron dentro del rango que va desde 7.49 hasta 9.60. El análisis de correlación lineal indica que existe una r = 0.225 y el análisis de tendencia polinómica de orden tres resultó ser r3 = 0.399.
