Tesis llevada a cabo para conseguir el grado de Doctor por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.--2017-04-20Over the last years, the fabrication and study of nanostructures with intertwined magnetic and plasmonic functionalities has experienced a relevant momentum. These so-called magneto-plasmonic systems are attractive since they allow exploring novel routes for magnetic field enhanced light matter interaction at the nanoscale. On the applications side, higher sensitivity gas and biological sensors based on magnetoplasmonic transducers have been proposed, prototyped and considered for commercialization. The telecom area also benefits from this phenomenology for example developing more compact and reliable optical isolators, or modulators.

Focusing our attention in nanoparticle-like magnetoplasmonic systems exhibiting localized plasmon resonances, a very intense investigation has been put forward by several groups in the world, with exciting results in single and double resonant systems, mainly in the visible. The fabrication of these kind of systems in large (cm2) areas and with increasing degrees of configurational and compositional complexity is a demanded and at the same fact challenging request. 

With this in mind, the goal of this thesis has been twofold. On one hand to explore more complex mutiresonant systems where magneto-optical activity may be optimized in an extended wavelength range. For this, the nanoring configuration, well known and studied in plasmonics, has been selected. On the other hand, the second goal has been to optimize the existing technology for the fabrication of magnetoplasmonic structures, being able to design and achieve multicomponent 3D architectures with in plane and out of plane control of the positioning and characteristics of the individual building blocks.Peer reviewe
