The agglomeration of oaunting and photograph as way to understanding of abstraction

Abstract

The meaning of the word abstract remains a mystery in understanding visual arts. Even though the term is hard to understand, it plays an important role in visual arts and art history. One of the key elements is abstract painting, which took art a step further. Through the use of abstract art the artist expresses his own feelings, reveals his inner world and happenings around him. Many artists cannot depict all of this through realistic images and shapes as efficiently as they can with the use of abstract shapes or pure abstraction. Abstract painting is also part of the curriculum in the first year of high school. Pupils have gained some knowledge of visual arts already in the elementary school but it is hard to assess how much or if it is enough in order to actually understand abstract painting. From my passion for abstract painting and photography a new idea of combining the two together was born. It is my wish that with this creative strategy, pupils get a clearer and more direct explanation for the concept of abstraction. My thesis is based on those ideas. I write about history of abstract painting in the theoretical part, where I mention specific branches of it. Furthermore I also briefly describe the origin of photography and the use of it throughout history, more exact in the second half of 19th and 20th century. After the explanation of the two main terms, the main theme on combining photography and painting follows, where I also mention artists from the 20th century, who used the combination of these two media. I describe how they combined photography and painting and the effects they achieved. After this topic my own research follows, where I searched for different ways to combine these two media. Lastly I used all my obtained knowledge from the theoretical and practical research in the school, where I carried out a research on how to introduce the concept of abstraction, during which many interesting and ingenious paintings were made
