Abstract
The term "incunable", which refers to the historical development of the book after the printing press became available, entered the Turkish language from the West. Since the printing press developed and become widespread in Europe differently to Ottoman, there is no consensus either about the period defined with this term or characteristics that distinguish this period from other times in the history of the printing press. The main reason of this is to ignore different social structure of Ottoman Empire. Considering the role of the Islam and its affect on society, it is important to examine the different social structure in definitions and approaches of "incunable"
