Peritoneoscopy and guided liver biopsy in infants and children

Abstract

The authors report ehir experience in 126 laparoscopies in 101 children and infants aged 8 weeks to 14 years, with the use of standard and miniaturized instruments. General anaesthesia was systematically used except for 12 infants in hepatic coma. The conditions for which peritoneoscopy was performed were metabolic diseases (mainly in infants), neonatal cholestasis, Reye syndrome, abdominal tumours, infectious diseases, portal hypertension and, in 50% of the cases, post-hepatitic chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis. Guided liver biopsy combined with peritoneoscopy yielded a diagnosis in almost all cases.SCOPUS: ar.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
